May 31, 2013, Mayor of Jieyang City Chen Dong led a delegation to visit the German Embassy in Beijing, after Premier Li Keqiang successfully concluded his official visit to Germany, whose visit opened a new chapter of China-Germany cooperation in a crucial period. Mayor Chen had further communication with German Ambassador to China Dr. Michael Schaefer on China-Germany cooperation of ZhongDe Metal Eco-City, reaching a series of consensuses. People also take part in this visit are deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Department of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Chen Yuehua, deputy division chief of Bureau VIII Western European Affairs of the International Department Central Committee of CPC Sun Shouliang, secretary general of Jieyang municipal government Cai Bangfan, district director of Jiedong District of Jieyang Chen Jiapeng, association president of Metal Enterprises Union of Jieyang Wu Kedong and general manager of Guangdong ZhongDe Shuangyuan Education Investment Co., Ltd Jiang Zengbin, etc.

      After listening to Mayor Chen Dong’s introduction of Jieyang City and ZhongDe Metal Eco-City, Ambassador Schaefer said that the cooperative space between China and Germany in metal industry was very large, and MEUJ could communicate with and learn from related associations in Germany to promote the management and innovation ability. Ambassador Schaefer also stressed that German Embassy in China would try the best to help Jieyang to construct ZhongDe Metal Eco-City as the demonstration of China-Germany cooperation.

      Mayor Chen Dong said, the line in China-Germany cooperation was described for Jieyang at this time of communication to make the following cooperative emphases be much clearer. In order to effectively implement the instructions of Ambassador Schaefer, Chen Dong made some requests to German Embassy, including assistance to arrange the schedule of visiting Germany in July for Jieyang delegation, assistance to promote the cooperation between ZhongDe Metal Eco-City and German metal enterprises or associations, support to the cooperation in ZhongDe Metal Eco-City on co-constructing university of technology, science and technology center, industrial design center and etc. Mayor Chen sincerely hoped that Dr. Schaefer would treat Jieyang as the important carrier for German Embassy to advance pragmatic cooperation between German and local government in China, and that Dr. Schaefer could lead other embassy officials to visit Jieyang at an appropriate time, forming a consultation system between Jieyang municipal government and German Embassy.
